In mythology, the OWL has been treated reverently with a place of prestige. In Hinduism, Laxmi, the goddess of money and wealth rides an owl. It’s believed that an owl entering a home is a good omen resulting in flow of wealth. It is also believed that the owls have magical properties to ward off bad luck. Because of its round eyes that never move and stare straight ahead, the owl has been associated with wisdom. The term “lord with circular eyes” (Choka-dola) is used to refer to Jagannath (form of Krishna-Vishnu worshipped in Puri)
The ancient Greeks revered the goddess Athena (goddess of wisdom & prophecy), whose symbol was the owl and hence it came to be regarded as a symbol of higher wisdom in many ancient cultures. The ancient Welsh associated owls with fertility.
